Epazote
Epazote

An herb well-known in Latin America, Epazote is most often used in Mexican foods. It is sometimes referred to as Mexican tea or pigweed, and considered a garden pest in its native area. Although it adds a mildly sweet flavor, it is also a carminative allowing it to also counteract the effect of a diet rich in beans. Epazote is an herb grown in Mexico and may be considered the “parsley” of Mexican cuisine. Much like cilantro, it is often referred to as an ‘acquired taste’, as it is quite pungent.
