Our Event Culinary Assistant Program
Calling All Food Enthusiasts!
Kitchen Window's Culinary Arts Cooking School and Event Center is now accepting Culinary Assistant applications for next trimester. The Culinary Assistant is a volunteer position and is a great way to both learn and save on cooking classes. Culinary Assistants arrive 45 minutes before class to help the instructor set-up and complete any necessary food prep work. This provides a great opportunity to not only meet the instructor, but to gain practical experience and get helpful tips from some of the finest chefs and culinary instructors in the Twin Cities area. The assistant continues to help throughout the class and takes care of clean-up at the end.

Culinary Assistants receive free tuition on the classes they assist with, receive advanced registration and receive a free class, to attend as a guest, for every four classes they facilitate. Culinary Assistants should have a knowledge of food preparation and service.

Culinary Assistant Duties

• Assist Kitchen Window's Cooking School Director and attending Chefs/Instructors prior, during and after class instruction.
• Set up coffee, water, tea.
• Set out recipe packets.
• Help determine plating needs for class tastings with instructor/chef.
• Help determine timing of tastings with instructor/chef (as each item is taught or at the end of instruction).
• When required, assist instructor/chef with final recipe preparation prior to class.
• Greet and register clientele.
• Serve as liaison between the chef and audience during class instruction, ensuring an optimum learning experience for our clientele.
• Closely observe class instruction, assisting the chef/instructor with food preparation when required.
• Replenish water, coffee, tea as needed.
• Assist in serving tastings.
• Assist in clean-up after each class.
• Clear counter tops after class and complete all clean up (pots, pans, dishes, glassware).
• Wipe down all surfaces with bleach solution.
• Take out garbage/trash.
• Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Culinary Director (marketing for missing ingredients, picking up recipe packets at Kinkos, etc.).
